Program Founders
Alison and John Curtis founded the AEEC in the spring of 1993. Alison Curtis directed the Alpine Environmental Education Center from 1993 until 2005 and is the former Chair of the Environmental Education Committee of the European Council of International Schools. Mrs. Curtis is also the coordinator of several grassroots health and education projects in Kenya. Alison Curtis taught 1st grade at the International School of Lausanne for many years, and John Curtis was headmaster of the International Schools of Berne and Lausanne. Together, they identified the need among Swiss international schools for high quality field trip experiences and created the AEEC curriculum and programming through many years of hands-on experience with S.G.I.S school groups.
